Solution 1: Manually install the Desktop Content Viewer

  1. Double-click the AdobeContentViewer.air file located here:

    Note: The location can vary slightly if you are on 64-bit version of Windows, or if you are installing the InDesign CS5/CS5.5 Folio Producer Tools.

    Mac OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Installers/AdobeDigitalPublishingCS6/ContentViewer/AdobeContentViewer.air

    Windows: C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeInstallersAdobeDigitalPublishingCS6ContentViewerAdobeContentViewer.air

    Note: If you don't have the AIR Runtime installed, double-click the Adobe AIR Installer file in the same folder as the AdobeContentViewer.air file to install it. If that version of Adobe AIR is out-of-date, you can get the latest AIR Runtime installer here:

  2. After the Adobe AIR Runtime is installed, double-click the AdobeContentViewer.air file. You receive the following prompt:

    Are you sure you want to install this application to your computer?

    If the Publisher Identity shows the status of VERIFIED, click the Install button and complete the installation of the Adobe Desktop Content Viewer.

Note:

Test the Preview on Desktop feature from the Folio Builder panel to see if it is working. If it fails, you receive the following error:

Proceed with the next solution, 'Correct folder permissions.'

Choose the subsection for your operating system, and follow its steps in order.

  1. Select the Adobe folder and choose Get Info from the Finder's File menu.

  2. Click the Lock icon and provide Admin credentials to enable editing of the folder settings.

  3. Set the Privilege for a group you are a member of to Read/Write.

  4. Click the Widget icon in the bottom of the Get Info dialog box, and choose Apply To Enclosed Items.

  5. Click OK to the prompt, 'Are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group, and permissions to all the enclosed items?'

  1. In the Windows Explorer, locate the folder C:Program FilesAdobe.

  2. Right-click the Adobe folder and choose Properties from the context menu.

  3. Check the option labeled, 'Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from the object.'

  4. Select a group that you are a member of, and click Edit.

  5. For the 'Full Control' permission, enable the Allow checkbox and click OK.

  6. Click OK in dialog box 'Advanced Security Settings For Adobe. When you receive the prompt that reads, 'This will replace explicitly defined permissions on all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from Adobe,' click Yes.

  7. After the progress indicator completes, click OK in the Advanced Security Settings For Adobe dialog box. Then click OK again to exit the Adobe Properties dialog box.

Note:

If the Preview on Desktop still fails after correcting the folder permissions, repeat Solution 1.
